Are You My First?—Where the Couples Stand After Hulu’s Bold New Dating Show

Reality dating shows have tackled just about every theme imaginable, but Hulu’s newest series takes the genre into territory few expected: pairing up singles who have never had sex. Are You My First?, from the creators of Love Island USA, brings together a group of virgins at a luxury resort, giving them a chance to explore romance and, potentially, intimacy for the first time.

Guiding the experiment are hosts with their own history in Bachelor Nation: Kaitlyn Bristowe, known for rewriting Bachelorette rules, and Colton Underwood, who made headlines as the first virgin Bachelor before coming out as gay in 2021. For Underwood, this project feels especially personal.

“I think there was a lot of shame, and just for me, just this guilt that you have, especially when you’re closeted and really struggling with your sexuality,” he explained to People in August 2025. “That’s why I love a show like this—it gives people permission to be patient with themselves and with one another.”

The premise alone sparked conversations online, but since its premiere, Are You My First? has climbed to the top of Hulu’s charts, hailed as one of the most original—and occasionally chaotic—dating shows in recent memory. Of course, fans want to know: which couples actually left the island still together?

Brooklyn & Layne — Status: Unclear

Brooklyn Benson, a 24-year-old dance teacher from Los Angeles, and Layne Gwartney, a 24-year-old commercial pilot from Oklahoma, were one of the standout pairs of Season 1. Their finale moment was straight out of a rom-com: Layne nervously asked Brooklyn to be his girlfriend, gushing about how he had never felt so comfortable with anyone before. Brooklyn said yes, and the two seemed set for a sweet post-show romance.

But fast-forward to today, and fans are left guessing. The pair don’t follow each other on Instagram, though both keep in touch with other contestants. They also haven’t exchanged any public Venmo transactions—a detail eagle-eyed viewers use to track off-screen connections. It’s possible they’re keeping things quiet to avoid spoiling the season, but signs suggest they may have gone their separate ways.

Sara & Jake — Status: Split

For Sara Brito, a 28-year-old student from San Diego, and Jake Rohr, the finale marked the end of the road. When Jake asked Sara to be his girlfriend, she hesitated before turning him down.

“My voice matters, so losing myself on someone else’s path isn’t what I want,” she told him, citing both mixed signals and moments she felt were controlling.

Jake was visibly crushed, admitting in his confessional that he had pictured a future with Sara—even imagining she might be the one he would lose his virginity to. But while romance didn’t last, their friendship seems intact. Both follow each other on Instagram, suggesting no hard feelings remain.

Michael & Rachael — Status: Unclear

Michael Aaron Fractor, a 26-year-old comedian from Austin, and Rachael Staudt, a 30-year-old cocktail waitress from Tampa, had one of the season’s more unpredictable dynamics.

In the finale, Michael seemed torn but ultimately leaned into his feelings. “I’d be a fool to end this. We have something so good,” he told Rachael, who admitted she thought he was about to break things off. The emotional exchange ended with hope for their relationship outside the resort.

Now, however, things appear murkier. Like Brooklyn and Layne, Michael and Rachael don’t follow each other on Instagram, but they remain connected with other cast members. They also don’t appear linked financially, at least not publicly. Whether they’re avoiding spoilers or quietly moving on, fans will have to wait for confirmation.

A Different Kind of Love Story

While Are You My First? delivers the dramatic finales and emotional confessions reality dating fans expect, it also digs into a theme often skipped in the genre: the vulnerability of intimacy—or lack thereof. By centering people who’ve waited for sex, the show reframes conversations around patience, expectations, and what it really means to be “ready.”

Some couples may not have lasted, but the series has already made a cultural mark by pushing past stereotypes and giving its cast the freedom to explore love at their own pace.

And as for Season 2? If the buzz around the debut is any indication, viewers are ready to see even more firsts.
